THE LIZARDS by Alan Bowne
SYNOPSIS
The fascination and beauty of watching humans reacting like instinctual reptiles, who needle and dart through this play's emotional abyss, is the essence of Alan Bowne's last major unproduced work. Set in New York's East Village, two male hustlers lose a box that contains 25 grams of heroin in a "Marks" apartment that is crammed with years and years of clippings from newspapers and magazines of NYC history. Maurice, the myopic harborer, denies any knowledge of the whereabouts of the drugs and breathes his last breath for not spilling the information. At the rise of the 3rd Act, Maurice is in a garbage bag on the floor and 3-Yard and Kip are in animal hysterics. This image evokes the haunting title, The Lizards. The plan deepens and the stakes rise as the true dominator, Gooey, shows her ugly head and wants to know, "what happened to the box?" Can Kip, Gooey and 3-Yard find it in time? Who will suffer the consequence?
